FireFox 3 targetted for June

23rd March 2008, 217 views

Just read that FireFox 3 has been targetted for June. Might be interesting, but I doubt it. Going against the "I hate Microsoft" grain I'll be more interested to see Internet Explorer 8.

The idea that IE is going to start to conform to the developers expectation is a significant one I think.

If MS _REALLY_ commit 100% to making IE THE standards compliant browser they are more than capable of, it could really be a BIG push for the rest others.

I am not too sure that I get the version targetting facility. I understand that no matter what IE8 does in terms of standards it still has to work like previous versions to maintain backward compatibility. Here, all the other browsers have the advantage. If they did it wrong, they corrected it. With IE7-, if it was wrong, it became a standard.

I think it will be a while before the targetting mechanism will be dropped - a LOT of old code simply won't be upgraded. How long does MS leave it before they "break the internet".

Richard.
